Welcome to the Low Vision Care Center

We thank you for selecting our office to treat your low vision problems.

We want you to feel relaxed and comfortable with us, and we will gladly answer any questions you have regarding your eyes, or our office procedures.

The Low Vision Care Center is dedicated to the non-surgical rehabilitative care of patients with difficult or unusual vision problems.

Low Vision Care

Low vision care is the examination, diagnosis and non-invasive rehabilitation of adults and children who have limited vision, not correctable medically, surgically, or with regular eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Optical and/or electronic visual enhancement systems called "low vision devices" are designed and prescribed, to enhance the vision of patients with partial sight or side vision loss. Rehabilitative vision therapy may also be used to help patients move their eyes more effectively to maximize visual efficiency.

Thousands of patients with low vision and legal blindness have been successfully treated at the Low Vision Care Center, even those who have been told that nothing more can be done for their eyesight.

You deserve this chance to improve your vision to maximum capacity.

Eye Conditions Treatable By Low Vision Care

Low vision may be due to involvement in any part of the eye.

A partial list of conditions amenable to low vision care includes: macula degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, visual field defects, complicated cataract, glaucoma, Retinitis, Pigmentosa, corneal disease, degenerative myopia, retinal scars, optic nerve atrophy, stroke, head injury, multiple sclerosis, and amblyopia.

Our Examination Facility

The Low Vision Care Center is a complete low vision facility. Low vision devices of every type are available for treating residual sight.

In addition when indicated our examination includes computerized visual field and macular threshold testing, gonioscopy and peripheral retinal examinations, applanation tonometry, retinal photography, contrast sensitivity testing and laser interferometry.

What Shall I Bring to My Initial Office Visit?

Bring any eyeglasses or magnifiers that you use, and be sure to always have a friend or relative with you during all examinations.

How Much Does Low Vision Care Treatment Cost?

The fees for low vision care depend on your eye condition, and the low vision devices required.

You will first be scheduled for initial appointments to document the extent of the vision problems, and to determine if low vision care may be helpful. Low vision examination appointments will then be scheduled.

All fees will be discussed in advance of services. For your convenience, we accept Visa and Mastercard, and easy pay financing is also available.

What Are My Chances of Success?

Much of that depends upon the individual.

Patients, who have specific visual needs such as reading, television, or seeing faces and are motivated to learn to use low vision devices, will be most successful.

There is no miracle cure to return your vision to its original condition. However, depending upon your condition, there are low vision devices, techniques, adaptation and vision therapies can help you resume many of the visual tasks you have not been able to perform. In the end, how much progress you make and how rapidly you make it will depend on your commitment, participation and cooperation.

Nearly 85% of our low vision patients benefit from low vision care, allowing many people to read, instead of using braille or talking books.

Types of Low Vision Devices

Bioptic Telescopes Bioptics are miniature telescopes which allow distance vision for patients who are ambulatory.

Auto-Focus Telescopes Allow clear vision from arms length to far away distances without the need to manually focus the device.

Full Field Telescopes Designed for stationary distance activities like watching television or movies.

Reading Telescopes These are for reading or close work at a specified distance.

Hand-held Low Vision Devices Hand-held devices are for patients who do not require, or can’t use more sophisticated low vision devices. Some are available with a fixed focus for patients with hand tremors. Some have built-in illumination.

Absorbing (Filter) Lenses Specifically prescribed to absorb ultra-violet light and to reduce glare, these lenses improve visual contrast, improve visual comfort, and allow better adjustment to change in light level. Even the most light sensitive patient can receive comfort with the latest development in special absorbing filter lens.

Visual Field Devices These devices allow wider field awareness for patients with limited side vision or hemianopsias. Devices include amorphic and special prism glasses. These are particularly effective for patients who have side vision loss due to stroke or head injury. These are the most effective for patients with side vision loss due to stroke or head injury.

Electronic Vision Enhancement Electronic vision enhancement allows improved distance sight and/or clearer reading vision, for patients with more severe visual loss.

Scyfix Treatment ScyFix is an alternative treatment which may slow macula degeneration and/or may provide vision improvement for many patients with macula degeneration.

Many treated patients report some improvement in acuity and/or sharpness of vision and/or some improvement of the visual field loss and/or increased color perception, and/or a slowing of the loss of vision.

This non-surgical and pain-free treatment uses a very low intensity, micro-current to rejuvenate macula cells that are dormant by restoring the bioelectrical imbalance of those cells. No side effects or adverse reactions have been observed related to this treatment.

ScyFix treatment is not a cure for macula degeneration, is not a substitute for laser treatment by a retina specialist, and does not replace the necessary macula degeneration nutritional regimen. It is the alternative treatment for patients who want to maximize their possibility of vision improvement and minimize progression of their macula degeneration.
